The Village Market

At Lubaantun, a Late Classic Maya ruin (circa 850 A.D.) on the outskirts of San Pedro Columbia, many clay figurine-whistles were produced, about 6" tall. Since so many have been found both in the excavated areas of the ruin and in the village and surrounding countryside, it is thought that they may have been everyday items, perhaps used as charms or hunting aids, and/or for religious ceremonies. Also, since so many heads were found without bodies and vice versa, it is speculated that they may have been broken ("killed") upon the deaths of their owners.

The Columbia women are well known for their fine embroidery, and this year offer you this set of figurine heads with "bulbous turbans," inspired by partial figurine-whistles found at or near Lubaantun.

The 8"x10" figurines embroidered especially for you will arrive at your home in a wooden frame with glass and a card introducing the woman who sewed them. Expect delivery within six-eight weeks of receipt of your order.
