Their Words
From several
participants in the Columbia Opportunity Center's first summer internship
program:

This
is the first opportunity that ever came to my village. Having
this opportunity, you need not go to town, which will cost you
passage money, and you would have to pay so much for classes and
I don't think they have as many computers as they have in the
Columbia Opportunity Center. So that is why this is the greatest
opportunity a student like me could ever have. - Henrietta Ical,
15
I only completed primary school. Since I couldn't further my education,
this opportunity to me is a blessing. Thanks to you all for making
this project come true. It is not all the time you find opportunities
like the Columbia Opportunity Center. - Jennie Ical, 20

I
am just writing this letter of appreciation to you for the donation
of computers to my village and I want to thank you because I have
learned how to type and now I am ready for high school because I
already know how to type. Now when I finish high school I would
like to find a job related with computers. - Marlin Ash, 13

I
live in a very large family and I have worked very hard for such
a long time. I have to do farming and I also have a great responsibility
for my family. I haven't finished primary school. But when I found
out about this great opportunity, I got very interested and came
over and asked how to use a computer. I went straight to and learned
about typing. I am looking forward to going to school. I will have
to work first and I will because I am very interested about going
to school, so maybe I will find a way how to go. - Matusaleme Choco,

I
have completed primary school. In September, I will be going to
study more at Toledo Technical High School. I would like to study
more and would like to have an education in my future life. I really
appreciate your kindness for bringing computers in my village. I
have learned many things about them. Really, I don't know how hard
you have struggled to get these computers, but we the people of
the village really enjoy them and of course, I would like to learn
more. So once more, I would like to say THANK YOU for educating
the children of San Pedro Columbia in computer technology and also
the storybooks you have donated. May God bless you more. - Leo Coh,
